Using the
Course Navigation Bar
Use the course navigation bar at the bottom of each page to navigate
in a course.
Exit closes the course and marks your current page.
Tools accesses a list of course topics and other course features.
Help displays help on using the course.
The back button goes to the previous page.
The forward button goes to the next page.

Using the Tools Page
Click Tools to view the Tools page, which allows you to access the following course features.

Course Topics
|
View the topics available in this course by
clicking on a topic. Course topics are arranged by unit, and list
all the topics and subtopics covered.

Skill Assessment
|
Answer questions, chosen at random, about the
topics covered in the course.
|
|
Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
|
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are a nationally recognized
measure of completion of non-credit professional development learning
activities. CEUs can be used for recertification applications, for
employer records, or for credit at specific learning institutions.

|
Scores
|
See your scores within the course.
|
|
Evaluate This Course
|
Open the course evaluation form. We'd like
to hear your opinion about our courses.
|
|
Master Topics
|
View the topics for all available courses.
|
|
Search
|
Search for a particular word or phrase in all
available courses.
|
|
|
Determining Your Course Location
Use the following features to determine your location:
The title bar indicates which course you are currently taking.
The page heading shows the topic.
The status bar displays your location in the course.

Sizing Your Screen
If your screen is scrolling and you are viewing the course in a resolution of 640 by 480, consider increasing the resolution to 800 by 600 or larger.
Another way to reduce scrolling is by turning off your browser's toolbar and location display.
You can also reduce scrolling by reducing the size of the fonts your browser displays. If you are using Netscape, set the proportional font to Arial, size 11 and set the fixed font to Courier New, size 9. If you are using Internet Explorer, set the font to Medium, Small or Smallest.

Viewing the Course Topics
From the Tools page, click Course Topics to view the topics window The topics are organized by unit. Click a topic in the list to view the topic in the course.
Press Ctrl + F to search for a topic in the list. You can minimize the
topics window so that you can refer to it at any time.

Using the Glossary
From the Tools page, click Glossary to open the glossary. You can minimize the glossary window so that you can refer to it at any time.
Click a letter at the top of the glossary to view terms beginning with that letter.

Answering Questions
After answering a question, click .The following visual elements are part of the feedback to your answer.

Exiting a Course
To exit a course, click Exit. You will return to the list of available courses. The next time you choose the course from the course list, you will return to the page where you exited.

Taking the Skill Assessment
Skill Assessment gives you the opportunity to answer questions, chosen at random, about the topics covered in the course. You can take the Skill Assessment as often as you like.
To access Skill Assessment, click Tools on the toolbar on any page.From the Tools page, click Skill Assessment.

Interpreting Your Scores
The Skill Assessment columns show your scores, by unit, for completed
Skill Assessments. The First Try column shows your score for the first
Skill Assessment you completed. The Best Try column shows your highest
score for each unit. The This Try column will show the score of your
most recently completed Skill Assessment.
The Course column shows your best score for questions you've answered
within the course. You must answer every question in a unit before your
scores are calculated. You may improve your score by answering all the
questions in that unit again.
A check mark indicates "mastery" of a unit. The score required
for mastery is 70% or better, though this score may be changed by your
course administrator.

The Overall Scores row shows the average score for units you've completed.
When you have an overall score of 70% or higher, you have mastered the
course and you can click Certificate to print out a certificate of completion.

You must answer every question in a unit before your scores are calculated.
From the Scores page, you can display a list of the questions you haven't
answered.

Using Exercises
Some courses contain exercises that allow you to practice a procedure
in the actual application being taught. You need to have the application
installed on your PC. Open the application, and size the application
window and the course window so that you can view them simultaneously.

Using the Keyboard
In addition to using your mouse, you can also use keyboard shortcuts to navigate through the course, answer questions, and take the Skill Assessment.
Press K to display a shortucut menu showing all the keyboard shortcuts
available in the course.

Using Instant Mentoring
Instant Mentoring gives you immediate answers to questions you have while taking a course.
If Instant Mentoring is available to you, the Instant Mentoring classroom is displayed to the left of the course.
Type your question in the question window and click the Send button.
Your questions and the mentor's responses (indicated by the red mortar icon) appear at the bottom of the tab.
Messages are updated automatically every 20 seconds, but you can refresh at any time by clicking the Update button. Clicking the Freeze button turns off the update feature.

Using the Master Topics
From the Tools page, click Master Topics to view the Master Topics window, which displays the topics for every course available to you.
In the Master Topics window, click a course name in the upper window to display its topics below.
You can resize or minimize the Master Topics window so that you can refer
to it at any time.

Searching the Courses
From the Tools page, click Search to open the search window, from which
you can search all courses available to you. You can also include synonyms
in your search.
You can minimize the search window so that you can search at any time.
Detailed instructions for searching the courses are displayed when
you first open the search window.
